Joakim was born in the part of Sweden where you can't say "r" properly. Now he lives in Stockholm where he is working as a director and screenwriter.
In 2015 he won the After Bergman Award for his screenplay of the short film Ultimate Fails Compilation. His short film Playground premiered at Gothenburg International Film Festival the same year. The year before, he was awarded by the Children's Scholarship Fund for the script of the film Animal Empire.
Joakim has studied film directing at Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts, and in addition to this, he has taken a bunch of classes and workshops in writing and acting.
Prior to getting in to filming, Joakim studied Art Direction at Berghs School of Communication in Stockholm. As an design student he was awarded in Art Director’s Club of New York and British Design & Art Direction Award. Joakim has directed a great number of commercials, and has been awarded in Guldägget and Roygalan.
Between studying Art Direction and becoming a filmmaker, Joakim tried his wings as a comedian. In 2008–2011 he performed over 200 stand-up gigs in all corners of Sweden, as well as being heard in radio shows and creating books.
