Joakim grew up in a middle-sized town in the south of Sweden. He now lives in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, where he works as a film director.

Joakim works in the truly stripped-down Scandinavian tradition of filmmaking and storytelling. He often combines drama and humor with a straight-out and strict visual concept and humor.

A film critic said, about Joakim’s way of filming, "Resulting in an outcome that is deliberately understated, but unmissable in its lucidity and impact”. And ”Joakim Thörn makes his point simply and without undue fanfare”

Joakim's short films have been screened at film festivals around the world. In 2015, he won the yearly After Bergman Award at the annual Bergman week in Fårö, Sweden.

During the last decade, Joakim has also directed a whole bunch of commercials for national and international brands. Some of the commercials have been awarded in competitions such as Eurobest, Guldägget and Roygalan.

Joakim has a degree in Film Direction from Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts and in Art Direction from Bergh's School of Communication in Stockholm.
